Alpine Aggregates, LLC.
Alpine Aggregates, LLC. is excited to announce a partnership with Steamboat Sand and Gravel, LLC. for the purpose of establishing a gravel-mining operation on approximately 147 acres of land located about six miles South of Steamboat Springs along State Highway 131.
July 28th, 2010:
Alpine Aggregates has been unanimously approved for a Special Use Permit by the Routt County Commissioners. This decision comes after an 8-1 vote recommending approval by the Routt County Planning Commission on July 1st. The County Commissioners hearing lasted around four and a half hours, with ample public comment both for and against the proposal. In the end, the commissioners found that the Alpine Aggregates proposal was significantly better than the one approved for LaFarge in 2005 and constituted a thorough plan for safe, efficient, and low-impact gravel mining.
--
The primary objective of the Steamboat Sand and Gravel Mine will be to ensure the continued supply of sand and gravel products to the growing Steamboat Springs and Routt County Community.
Further public benefits have been identified as follows...
·Lessening truck impacts through downtown Steamboat Springs by locating a gravel operation south of town and providing ease of delivery to South Steamboat Springs and South Routt County, as well as other parts of the County.
·Preservation and enhancement of the agricultural meadow adjacent to SH 131
·Off-site creation of higher quality wetlands for wildlife and other wetland functions
·Donation by Alpine Aggregates, Inc. of 10 cents per ton to Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Foundation
·Conservation of off-site land to offset mining impacts
·Minimal acreage disturbance; Alpine Aggregates will work to only have approximately 10 acres disturbed at any given time (5 acres of mining and 5 acres of reclamation).
·Extensive new tree and willow planting around the site to improve habitat. Alpine Aggregates is working to set a new standard for gravel operations and reclamation efforts. We will aim to produce an end product which maximizes usage of hay meadows and wetlands expansions.
